'A World of Conflict,' the documentary about the Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone project, is being shown here in its entirety, one chapter each week.

By the Hot Zone Team, Mon Oct 15, 6:56 PM ET

Chapter Three - Democratic Republic of the Congo
Kevin Sites visits a nation that was once considered the battleground of Africa's "First World War." Along the way he interviews former child soldiers as well as the victims of the Congo's brutal rape epidemic, where civilian women have become the target of the many armies and militias operating in the eastern part of the nation. The UN's top humanitarian chief calls it the worst area in the world for sexual violence.

"A World of Conflict" is the documentary about the "Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone" project, in which veteran war correspondent Kevin Sites reported from every major global conflict in one year, in an effort to understand the costs of a world perpetually at war.

We are highlighting one chapter of the documentary each week in chronological order, allowing you to see the film in its entirety — entirely online.

The documentary contains searing, never-before-seen images of combat and its lingering impact on civil society, beginning with the anarchy of Somalia in September 2005 and culminating with the explosive war between Israel and Hezbollah in summer 2006.

The documentary is included with Sites' new book, "In the Hot Zone: One Man. One Year. Twenty Wars." (The Harper Perennial paperback original is available for presale now at Amazon.com.)

I feel speechless. I am amazed by that woman's strength to tell her cruel experience with the rebels. If only people thought of/treated others as they would like to be treated, this would never happen.

Is it possible to shame more news stations into showing us this media. This is information that the world needs to see. And though we have our problems here in america something should also be done to help these struggling countries the people there deserve peace as much as the next human being.

I am originally from the Congo. I've been living in the U.S. for the past 12 years. But my heart bleeds for my country of origin. I blame the central government for the chaos, and also the foreign governments that are backing different militias. I dont understand why the Congo should be the refuge for all the rebel movements from surrounding countries like Soudan, Rwanda, Uganda. On the other side, cant these militiamen be men enough to fight someone carrying a gun like them? Why prey on innocent civilians, women and children? Someone suggested that all that violence is deliberately orchestrated and geared towards one purpose: to depopulate the Eastern region. Particularly the Kivu. So that It could be detached from the Congo .All that madness saddens me. The riches in our soil are our curse. And greed shows its worst face in that region. People dont have food and yet, the region is awashed whith all sorts of weapons. There is no real will from anyone to end the situation. If I could I would catch each of the perpetrators and hang them for what they did. They dont deserve to be called human beings. Badiunde Banga

War has become a booming business in the world today. Its known as the privatisation of war. Most of the wars in the world are influenced by external Western powers with the sole intention of making abnormal profits from the sale of arms, siphonong and smuggling of minerals and oil ....

What is going on in the Congo is not right. Why is there nothing being done about this ? I don't understand why our world leaders are doing nothing to stop what is going on in the congo. Out of all the wars in the world, this is one that needs to be delt with the most.

We are supposed to be celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace, but warfare rages all over the world. We have really lost our way by having Western nations supporting the privatization of war around the globe because of monetary gain. How can we ever take the profit out of warfare to make this world better for all people?
