ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: HOT ZONE DOCUMENTARY

Documentary: 'Open Eye - Open I'

Photographer Shirley Barenholz says she has spent her career using her camera to explore people's emotions.

By the Hot Zone Team, Tue Nov 13, 1:50 AM ET

In her internationally-screened documentary, "Open Eye - Open I," Shirley Barenholz navigates the emotions stirred by tragedy -- she captures how her subjects cope, grieve, and make peace with their trials.

Two of the characters in this film have survived the worst the world has to offer. Barenholz's father is a Holocaust survivor. Her friend and fellow artist, Kinneret Boosany, survived a suicide-bomb attack.

As the title suggests, "Open Eye - Open I" is also a journey of release for Barenholz herself. Through her art exhibit and by observing her more emotionally expressive friends, Barenholz comes to terms with her own loaded past.

In the following clip from "Open Eye - Open I" Barenholz visits Boosany as she recovers from the suicide bombing. We see Boosany in the hospital through various stages of recovery. Eventually she goes home to cope with her new reality. Throughout her struggles we see Boosany serve as an example of emotional freedom and expression for Barenholz.

This is the second clip featured on the Hot Zone from "Open Eye - Open I." The first clip focuses on Barenholz's father and his influence on the photographer. It can be seen here.

How many palestinians have been killed or mamed by the Israelis? Did anyone bother to even think about the 5 million people who are refugees in other countries? The Anapolis conference was like a Bush-Condi game with the Arab Chearleders nothing eles. Cannot solve the conflict using a bar-type meeting with a candi act like a belly dancer. The hidden agenda behind anappolis is Iran.

superdog1964, do you know anything about the problems this area. "why don't all of you just stop killing each other?" israel has colonised parts of palestine illegally and the united states supports them and uses their media to distort the way we see the situation in the middle east. making believe that israel is the victim. we need to see more documentaries showing the plight of the palestinians!!!
