Notes from Mission Control

As noted here last Friday, Kevin's satellite modem, which he relies on to transmit text, photos and video, is broken. We have posted dispatches from Kevin since then, which may have caused some confusion. So in our continuing efforts to "pull back the curtain" on Kevin's newsgathering, here is a bit more about what is going on.

An update on Kevin's transmission situation

Hot Zone readers: As noted here last Friday, Kevin's satellite modem, which he relies on to transmit text, photos and video, is broken. We have posted dispatches from Kevin since then, which may have caused some confusion. So in our continuing efforts to "pull back the curtain" on Kevin's newsgathering, here is a bit more about what is going on.

First, the satellite modem still isn't working. He has been relying on Internet connections from the field -- which in

Iraq are hard to find and spotty at best -- to transmit. This has worked fine for Kevin to transmit text and some photos, but he has not been able to transmit video clips.

We are still working on the problem, and we will post the video clips and photos that Kevin was not able to send originally to their respective stories when we can.

In the meantime we will continue to post the coverage that Kevin is able to transmit.
