Next Week in the Hot Zone: Syria

Like Iran, Syria is asserting itself as a regional power, seemingly at the expense of relations with the West.

By Robert Padavick, Fri Jan 20, 4:49 PM ET

Like

Iran,
Syria
is asserting itself as a regional power, seemingly at the expense of relations with the West.

Next week, the Hot Zone will address these tough political questions. We'll explore the Syrian position on its alleged role in the recent spate of political murders in Lebanon.

We'll also examine the Syrian border with

Iraq. Syria claims to have beefed up patrols to stem the flow of foreign fighters into Iraq, but fighters are still getting through and the U.S. contends Syria could do much more.

But like Iran, there is much more to Syria than its political face.

We'll show you a thriving nightlife scene that rivals the hottest western capitals. We'll meet traditional Syrian storytellers -- still spinning their tales in the 21st century.

In the meantime, tell us your stories. Have you been to Syria? Do you live there or know someone who does? Post a message on our comment boards and let us know.

And be sure to check back next week for our Syria coverage.

i don't trust the general US media, having noticed selective use of facts, opinions and quotes in reports as compared to other western and non-western countries, so i am looking forward to this coverage with great interest.

Good luck in these hate-filled danger zones. It's nice of you to profile these two war-mongering, terror-promoting countries before we have to nuke them.
