Attention all U.S. military members abroad:

Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone wants to know what you carry when you go to war.

What do you carry?

The Hot Zone recently featured members of the military Kevin met in

Afghanistan and their good luck charms. Now we want to feature you.

E-mail us here with a picture of you and your good luck charm. Make sure you tell us your name, age, unit, hometown and the story of why you carry that particular item while deployed.

Periodically, we'll feature some of the photos we receive, along with the stories behind them, here on the Hot Zone. We'll also upload some of the photos to our Flickr site. (Note: By emailing us your photo and information you automatically agree to these terms.)

Send the pictures as a jpeg, no larger than 1MB.

I carry presently a set of dog tags that was mine left at my grandmothers for five years. Upon her death, they were returned to me. I wear them every mission along with a bible verse on a shield about having no fear as God will be with me no matter what. I carry a K-bar knife my wife bought me, an m-9, and an M-4 named Louise. I took a photo once and put it in my hmmv, I was hit with a roadside bomb that day and do not carry photos on the hmmv anymore because it "disturbed the luck". My gunner carries a horse shoe on the outside of his body armor. Hope this is enough.

Reading these individual comments on "what do you carry" helps me remember the soldiers and individuals. It's so easy to get into day to day life and forget the troops over seas are ordinary american people. Thank you. I would like to hear more of what the soldiers carry. It helps me pray for the individual. (Heavenly Father, please protect the guy with the M-4 named Louise)

I see you out there, your faces, your loneliness, and your resolve. I sense your purpose and loyalty. If I may offer my gratitude and small token of love for serving our country, yours more than mine, for without you America would have no boundries. Our boundries are not only of soil, but of freedom, resources, international allys and the ability to rescue those who are under tyranny. America offers hope where there is none because of you my dear American solder. How beautiful your heart is and how much I pray for your safe return. Thank you from a very greatful heart from a mother, wife and grandmother of three. THank you and God bless you. Your friedn in Arlington, TX, Carol W.
