Support Gulsoma

Reader response to the story has been overwhelming; the Hot Zone comment boards have been flooded with messages of support. Many readers have asked how to help Gulsoma, or even if they can adopt her.

By Robert Padavick, Wed Mar 22, 8:14 PM ET

The Hot Zone recently published a story about Gulsoma, an Afghan girl who was forced into marriage at the age of four. Her new family members tortured and beat her close to death, until she escaped at age 11. Gulsoma now lives in an orphanage in Kabul, where she is recovering from her horrific past and displaying strength beyond her years. You can read the story here.

Gulsoma

Reader response to the story has been overwhelming; the Hot Zone comment boards have been flooded with messages of support. Many readers have asked how to help Gulsoma, or even if they can adopt her.

As a first step, the Hot Zone team has set up an email account so that messages of support can be retrieved and forwarded to Gulsoma.

Our local contact monitoring the account tells us he has already received over 11,000 messages. Click here to e-mail your message.

Unfortunately, the lack of infrastructure in

Afghanistan creates difficulty in setting up a system to deliver monetary or material support to specific institutions. Via local contacts, the Hot Zone team is exploring ways to deliver aid to Gulsoma's orphanage. Watch this space for more details.

It is hard to imagine suffering on the level that Gulsoma experienced. But the tragedy of war-torn Afghanistan is that there are many children in similar situations, growing up homeless, as orphans or simply living in poverty.

Wonderful story of human courage, yet one full of God's grace in our life, for it is through him that his young lady has been saved from more torture!

I have been brought to tears by this beautiful child's courage and her belief that good resides in most people. Her strength has inspired me to be a better person and try to forgive those that have hurt me in the past - God must speak through this child.

Its sad to read such treatment of children..The stupid illeterate people of not only Afghanistan but mostly of Asia, Eastern Europe, South America even here in North America are the person who should be held accountable..for child beating of innocent ages..! It happens right here too by drunk and drug addict father n mothers..so we cannot single out one nation only..but the sick families of any nation must be brought to justice..!

Having read hundreds of comments on yesterdays site regarding this young girl and her suffering, i am appalled at the ingnorance and the stupidity of many. What purpose are the platitudes of the religious nutters of all sides, if "God" allowed this to happen how has this benefitted an innocent. It's no good quoting scriptures, they were all written by man.. Goodness comes from the heart of each individual, stop passing the buck to "God", he doesn't exist.

This brutality has nothing to do with God or Allah allowing it to happen. It has to do only with the individual devils that delieved the blows to this innocent child. This is a shame to all men and women who walk this Earth. I do believe a higher power allowed her to survice her ordeal and escape from it. This little girl deserved a better childhood. May God/Allah bless her for the rest of her life.

May allah and all his grace be upon you Gulsoma. As for #4 and #5, the day will come when you too will face our creator Allah, God, Jahova, and the many other names he goes by, and only then will your ignorance and stupidity be revealed to all. I guess when your christian fathers screw their daughters and sons this too is in the name of your lord,(whos dead, right?)
