HALAT, Lebanon — Israeli air strikes along the Beirut-Tripoli highway rendered the coastal highway useless Friday, further isolating Lebanon from the outside world.
The Associated Press reported that
Israel targeted the bridges to stop the flow of weapons from
Syria.
The bridge bombings were part of a particularly lethal day. Israel conducted air strikes deep in northern Lebanon, killing at least 27 people. Three Israelis were killed as Hezbollah continued firing rockets into Israel, some reaching areas south of Haifa.
Kevin Sites filed two reports on the bridge attacks. The first report is from the Halat bridge, where rescue workers were trying to recover a car trapped in the rubble.
In the second report, Kevin Sites interviews a man who was driving on the Ghazir bridge in a suburb of Beirut when an air strike hit.
